Who are we?
Writing Academy is an online school and community for writers and aspiring authors. We’ve helped more than 30,000 students learn how to structure their manuscripts. Many of them are now in print and some have become Amazon and New York Times Best-Selling authors!
How do your Writing Workshops work?
Every course is comprised of three key components. First, there are Video Lessons with detailed, actionable information about a specific topic. Every lesson also includes a Discussion Area for students to ask questions and get feedback from the instructors and other students. The final component is Time. We know our students lead busy lives, so our courses are self-paced. You can take them at your own pace and return to lessons as often as you wish.
What do students learn in each course?
Our courses tackle creating a manuscript from start to finish, from idea all the way to publication. The foundation is structure.
On a macro level, we break down classic Three Act Structure into Nine Story Structure Checkpoints that guide the protagonist from the first page to the last and ensure success.
On a micro level, we also teach the Seven Elements of Scene and Sequel, which provide structure to each page of your manuscript.
Students also explore character creation and development, writing techniques to nail beginnings and endings, describing vivid settings, writing snappy dialogue, and genre-specific considerations, like clues and evidence (in Mystery Writing Workshop) or the beats of Romance (in Romance Writing Workshop).
How much does it cost?
Students can choose to enroll in one course at a time (they range from $49 to $299) or get affordable access to all our courses with a monthly subscription.
How do students decide what course to enroll in?
Some students come to us certain of what genre they plan to focus on. For those students, enrolling in one of our genre-specific courses is a no-brainer.
- Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy
- Romance Writing Workshop
- Mystery Writing Workshop
- Writing Young Adult Fiction
- Writing for Children
- Screenwriting Workshop
- Non-Fiction Writing Workshop
- Write Your Life Story
Others are still getting their feet wet or may be returning to writing after a long hiatus. Those students typically choose to enroll in Beginning Writing Workshop or our general Novel Writing Workshop before enrolling in a genre-specific course.
Those serious about developing their skills, honing their craft, and setting themselves up for success subscribe to our Author’s Success Bundle, which provides a fully rounded writing education across genres, formats, and publication.
