Short Story Contest 2018

Winter Short Story Contest

Enter to win Writing Academy’s first Short Story Contest! It’s free!

This is an opportunity for all you talented writers to have some fun, show off your skills, and win some prizes!

The Contest

Submit your 1,000 to 3,000-word short story between now and Sunday, December 9th for your chance to win.

There is no cost to enter the contest.

The Prizes

Gift Certificates for Writing Academy Workshops!

First Place: $1000 (enough for a 1-year Author’s Success Subscription!)

Second Place: $500

Third Place: $250

All other finalists: $150

The Theme

The theme of this short story contest is “winter.”

Your story should relate to winter in some way, big or small. That could mean the holidays, building a snowman, the winter Olympics, going to the beach (if you’re in the southern hemisphere!)…

Your Story

Your story must:

  • Be between 1,000 and 3,000 words long
  • Be your own original work
  • Have a beginning, middle, and end (please don’t submit chapters of a longer work)

How to Submit

E-mail your short story to: dani@writingacademy.com

Deadline

December 9th

The Judging

First Round: Steve and Dani

We’ll read through the entries and evaluate them based on the principles we teach in class (Scene and Sequel, Writing Big, Writing Well, etc.). We’ll select the most polished pieces to advance to the final round.

Final Round: You!

The finalists’ stories will be posted on this website. They’ll be available for our community to read and vote for. The short story with the most votes by December 19th wins!

NOTE: You will still own the rights to your story (so you can publish it). It will just be posted on our blog for others to read as part of the contest.

Why Enter?

In class, we rarely get the chance to share work that has a complete beginning, middle, and end. Now is your chance!

Also, you can use this credential to market your work!
